Weather & Clothing
Norway is located at the same latitude as Greenland, Alaska, and Siberia, but because of the Gulf Stream, the climate here is considerably more pleasant. Find out what to pack when planning your trip with Wild Seas!
From late June to early August, the weather is at its warmest with the days at their longest. At this time, air temperatures can reach up to 30°C (86°F) and sea temperature around 18°C (64°F) – great arctic swimming weather. An average summer day in Lofoten is typically between 12-20°C (54-68°F).
During water safaris, Wild Seas will provide kayak gear and floatation suits (onboard the boat). You are responsible for your bringing your own rain gear, hiking shoes and water shoes.
The weather can be wet and unpredictable and summer nights can be cool. You should have warm and breathable synthetic clothes for outdoor activities. We also recommend you have one set of clothes for water sports and another set for the campsite.
Closed-toe water shoes such as Crocs are perfect for kayaking, as they protect your feet and dry very quickly. Flip flops are not allowed while hiking or paddling.
During winter, Northern Norway’s arctic coastline averages temperatures a little under 0°C (32°F), but it can get as cold as -20°C (-4°F). Don’t worry, with plenty of extra layers, you will be warm and cozy enough to enjoy the refreshing arctic air.
We provide you with a warm floating suits during our sea excursions. If you are coming from a warm climate, quality winter clothing and boots are available for rent at Tromsø Outdoor.
Merino wool base layers (tops and long-johns) and socks are highly recommended. Appropriate winter clothing should be windproof, waterproof and hefty enough to withstand the elements and keep you warm. Don’t forget warm winter boots, a hat, gloves and a scarf.
